LOST - Unanswered questions that will totally bug me all summer

800pxsunwidmore_3

<raising hand>  I have some questions, please.

So I've been digesting last week's LOST season finale like many viewers, and I'm left with a bunch of nagging unanswered questions.  It seems that these questions will remain unanswered until next season begins, but that doesn't mean I can't ask them anyway.

Here we go:

Where'd the Island go?  - So where did that large land mass go, anyway?  What exactly happens when one turns a giant frozen donkey wheel on the Island?  Does it wake up the Giant Space Turtle?  I think a most likely explanation is that the Island didn't move geographically move, it temporally moved - about ten months into the future, the same amount of time Ben jumped when he appeared in the Sahara desert wearing his parka.  Just a theory.

What about the huge tsunami? - I know I mentioned this before, but when a large land mass disappears in the middle of the ocean, a sizeable quantity of water rushes in to take the place of where the large land mass used to be.  Wouldn't this cause a huge tsunami throughout the Indian Ocean?

Daniel Daniel and the Zodiac - So, is Daniel Farraday totally dead or what?  The last we saw him he was on a little Zodiac raft with a bunch of extras somewhere between the Island and the freighter.  Since both the Island and the freighter ceased to exist, where does that leave Daniel?

Sawyer and Juliet - Is it just me, or where they setting up a little Sawyer-Juliet romantic angle?  I mean, they're going to be stuck with each other on the Island.  He's a good looking guy, she's a good looking gal...

Sun and Widmore - What is Sun doing, contacting Charles Widmore?  He seemed as surprised as everyone else that an Oceanic 815 survivor would seek him out.  Is she working as a double agent for Ben maybe?  And what does she mean when she says that the Oceanic Six weren't the only people to leave the Island?  A reference to Desmond, perhaps...

Jin: Dead or Alive? - So, is Jin totally dead or what?  See Daniel and the Zodiac, above.  Jin's survival is even less likely than Daniel's since he doesn't even have a handy Zodiac raft.  A friend suggested that maybe Penny's boat comes back searching for survivors, which seems possible, I guess.

Desmond and Penelope - Penny's dad probably isn't going to be too happy to hear that Desmond has hooked up with his daughter again, is he?  How do you hide something from a guy like that?  And what about Ben?  He's going to try to kill Penny as revenge against Whidmore for the death of his daughter.  I'm expecting a Ben vs Desmond showdown.  Or more likely: a Sayid vs Desmond encounter, since Sayid has been Ben's trigger man after they leave the Island.

Locke The Bearded Jack Timeline - Am I wrong, or did the scene where Ben and Bearded Jack chat over Locke's casket take place a full three years after the rescue of the Oceanic Six?  What bad things happened between the rescue and Bearded Jack?  Sayid's woman was murdered, we know that.  Locke somehow made it off the Island...  But what else?  Ben says they all have to return to the Island, but why Dead Locke, too?  And does that include Desmond?  What about Frank Lapidus, does he have to go back, or does he not count?  And where is Sayid taking Hurley?

If anybody has any answers to these questions before next season of LOST begins, I'd love to hear them so I don't have to obsess about this stuff all summer.  Thanks.

I think when Sun said to Widmore that they both know the Oceanic Six weren't the only ones to leave the island, she was talking about Ben. It sounds like Jeremy Benthem visited all of the Oceanic six...and Ben asked Jack if Benthem told him he (Ben) had left the island...so I'm thinking that all six knew about Ben being off the island.

Brad Reed

My guesses, based on nothing but lots of teevee watching in the past:

--The island moved in space as well as time, because if it didn't, Widmore would know to just park a boat in the area and wait until the island returns. (Presumably, Widmore knows about the island's time-warping ability.)

--The huge tsunami that didn't happen? Nerd reason: because wherever and whenever the island went, it displaced water. When the island went bye-bye, it swapped positions with that displaced water. So the island was replaced by an island-sized blob of water, preventing a massive tsunami. Real reason: because creating a tsunami would create more story problems -- best to hand-wave it away.

--Daniel and the Zodiac will turn up next season. He was within the radius of the Big Whoopsy, and thus went with them. Possibly.

--Sawyer and Juliet is a sure thing. DRAMA! Jack loves Kate...Kate loves Sawyer...Sawyer loves Kate and Juliet...Juliet loves Sawyer and Jack... DRAMA!

--Sun will change to become a Machiavellian character, I betcha. They've set up in her flashbacks that she's manipulative. She'll be a dubious character for a while, and may even become a "bad guy" of sorts.

--Jin, like Charlie, is toast, and for the same reason: his one and only storyline resolved, and the writers had no idea what to do with him next. (Interviews with Cuse and Lindelhof admitted that's why they killed Charlie. If you think about Jin's story arc, you can see the same thing.)

--Desmond and Penny? You called it. The Desmond/Sayid conflict is ON, man!

--The online "Lostpedia" has a good timeline hammered out for the post-island period. Dead Locke, upon returning to the island, will become Ghost Locke, and will torment Jack throughout seasons five and six. Believe it.

Chris

I think the raft people (Rafties?) will be found and rescued, but not by Penny. Because they don't have the benefit of Jack's "we have to lie to everybody for some reason" plan, they show up and tell the truth, thereby making life WAY difficult for the Six.

Though, if JackBeard is 3 years after the island disappears, then that's probably a little too long for the Rafties to make it home. So, instead, let's say they all get sent back to the 16th century, where they become pirates and ground their ship on the island, thereby becoming the Others.

Dun dun DUN!!

Anybody curious about Claire?!? Is she dead? Is she alive? Why did she just puts Aaron down and bolt?

Chris

I think Claire died and the island is using her like it does all the dead people on the island. I think Christian led her into the jungle to die, and she left Aaron where she knew Sawyer would find him.

C

I think Sun contacts Widmore to team up to get Ben since when Locke (Jeremy Bentham) visits her, she finds out that it was Ben that caused the boat to blow up, killing Ben.

I don’t know, the future doesn’t look too bright for Jin. Remember, dude was busted for a DUI in Hawaii and the great unwritten rule of Lost is: You get busted drinking and driving in Hawaii; You die on Lost. This is your career on drugs. Any questions?

But those are some good questions, Dave. Not sure if I have any answers but in typical Lost style I will reply with my own questions that have been bugging me:

What happened to The Other’s chain gang prison work force?

Remember when Sawyer and Kate had to collect and smash rocks with that prison chain gang? What the hell? What was up with that and how come we’ve never heard a mention of what happened to those people? Were they cut loose into the wild like the New Orleans prison population before Katrina hit back when The Others evacuated Otherville in S3? Are they being detained in the temple or some other place? Seriously. What the hell?

How come Ben was messing with the people who were pushing the button in S2?

Ben’s a sharp guy. He’s got a photographic memory and genius level IQ in the Lex Luther stratosphere. He had the Swan station under surveillance and seems privy to a lot of what’s really going down on the island, so why antagonize the people that are pushing that button every 108 minutes? Consider that when Desmond failed to push the button that a plane crashed on the island and those survivors in turn killed some of Ben’s workforce, including some of his management team. Great. Then the next time they failed to push the button it resulted in the island being detected and the mercenaries coming to execute Ben’s daughter right in front of him.

Failure to push the button = people close to Ben being killed.

Like I said, Ben’s a smart guy, he should sure as hell know the consequences of what might happened if you fail to push the button. So why antagonize the Oceanic 815 crew that were drafted into button duty? That doesn’t seem to jive with someone who wants to keep the island on the down low

Ben has the means to kidnap Locke’s Dad and have him brought to the island but he can’t go out to a Blue Cross or have a doctor pay a house call to do his spinal surgery?

Ben can afford to set up Mr. Friendly with a dope gay bachelor pad in New York City but can’t book an appointment for a doctor to fix up his spine?

The Other’s can recruit Juliet, offer her a competive 401K package with a sign on bonus and stock options but Ben can’t book an appointment for a doctor to fix up his spine?

I could go on and on. Still having a hard time wrapping my head around that one.

How are they going to tie the shoes that Jack saw tied up in the tries in the 1st scene of the 1st episode into the last episode? A lot of us saw that coming from miles away and I suspect they really don’t have an answer, that they are just winging it. Are the 2 skeletons in the cave from S1 going to turn out to be Jack and Kate and Sawyer and Kate? I’m enjoying this show and all, but I think the writers are skating on thin ice and if they just try and wing it for the final episode it could blow up in their face worse than the last episode of the Sopranos.

just theories! no answers, or maybe just a few! I've always thought the writers forgot about the dead bodies in the lake where Sawyer and Kate swam so happy(season 1). I guess, all of you agree the polar bear in the middle of a desert was a Dharma Iniciative's experiment. Sun and Widmore??? Maybe she thinks Jin is alive and she tries to come back to rescue him (if charlie died, I think Jin too)... I'm not sure Desmond is being in the next seasons, maybe I'm wrong 'cause he & Faraday are a few of the people who know about time-travelling, so they'd probably "solve" the island dissapearence! So faraday has to be alive! Do you thin Jack's dad is Jacob or just a spokeman of him? If so, maybe that's why Claire and Jack finished on the island, destiny??? Locke is right when he talks about destiny, after all he was chosen to be there when he was a child. What about the Others' member who visited child-Locke??? he looks always exactly the same as if 50 years hadn't pass (locke's age more or less), time-travelling once again! ... I've never understood if Ben knew abut Desmond in the hatch! and what about the 815 survivers with The Others (the air-hostess, the kids)???
If you have answers, they'll be welcomed!

blarghonlost

time travel...its definitely happenng here... i wonder though if christian were actually there on the freighter could he have possibly taken michel and or jin with him? jin could have also easily jumped off the freighter and find the raft and end up back in the island? far fetched much?

the raftiies were in close perimeter to the island...so i'd assume that they did end up wherever the island did, whether it were hours or years into the future...

also whatever happened to the psychic's prediction that aaron shouldn't be brought up by anyone but claire? wonder what consequnce that'll bring...could it be the conflict of other people surrounding the kid—kate and jack, kid being tied around the island=bad luck

regarding bearded jack i think he went nuts over the guilt of knowing he left people on the island plus the fact that his dad is haunting him...seems like a valid reason to go beserk—rather drunk and stoned— on the world

about ben messing with the button pushers...i suppose he's just being ben...creating conflict and planting evil thoughts to manipulate the situation he may have also wanted to persuade widmore via purple light and electro magnetic anomaly into looking for the island, he may have indirectly caused the search for which i have no reason just a mere observation...he either kind of wants the island to be found, get off the island, stop being leader or have people killed, and of course he's seeking revenge but that's after alex gets killed...

i could go on...not sure if im making any sense though...there's no coincidences though just destiny...cant wait for next season

IS THE FLAG LAPEL DISCOURAGED???

If true that banning of the flag of my country is banned or discouraged, I will forego "LOST" and any ABC sponsors I am able to identify. identify
