DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - The five year plan
As you likely know already, the season finale of Desperate Housewives ended with a jump five years into the future on Wisteria Lane. That was trippy, huh?
Judging by the comments we got here at Live from L.A. about the episode, some viewers loved the idea, some viewers... not so much. I thought it was a pretty gutsy way to shake up the status quo of the show, but it certainly was a calculated risk on the part of the producers.
I've been thinking, though. What if the DH producers are pulling an "Oceanic Six" and borrowing a page from LOST? On LOST this season they've been toggling back and forth between the present day on the Island and the future, when six of the castaways make it back to civilization. Part of the fun has been trying to piece together which six survivors got off the Island and how. What if that's the plan for next season of DH?
I'm probably wildly off-base with this (I usually am) but it seems like there are two ways the DH creators could go at the beginning of next season. They could continue with the five year jump that they established at the end of the finale OR they could stay in "the present" and work towards the events and circumstances depicted in the flashforward.
Just throwing that out there as something to think about. I think it might be a little too avant garde for the show. Still, it would be interesting...

Someone please tell me who was the guy with Susan in the very last scene of the finale?

A five year gap, eh? Who are the new showrunners, Tom and Mary Bierbaum?

Thank God the show's not ending. That's what I thought when they jumped 5 years ahead...WTH? I too was wondering if we knew the guy Susan was with in the final scenes. If anyone recognized him, please shed some light!
Glad to know we're not losing the housewives at least for one more season.

I agree with two of the posters on the previous thread; I think that Edie is going to be passed out drunk in some hotel somewhere where she has been having a pity-party for herself...and she dreams this whole "future" sequence.
I still didn't care for it because it was too much like Lost (jumping to the future and all) and too much *not* like DH. I suppose we'll find out what the writers were thinking when next season rolls around!

did anyone notice the girls that Gaby has are like 8 years old. I thought the flash forward was 5, therefore the girls should be like 4 years old (allow time for preganancy). And there's two! so either they are twins or one is 4 and the other 3 at most.
I also think it is some dream, cuz of they way it jumps and doesn't end like DH usually does. I thought it was one of the best episodes ever until they did that jump. I really hope it's a dream and that they don't jump to that in 5 years. Seemed like a DH finale, which thankfully it's not.

I am thankful to hear this. I didn't like Mike being gone and the suddenness of the show. It felt like they had a few more minutes to fill at the end and decided to pull a "Lost" on us. I like the dream idea! That I can live with this summer.

I have been a hardcore DH fan from the start!, and I think the finale was great until it jumped 5 years then I was like well I quit watching it completely if that's how it's gonna be then I have not one reason the watch it again. I do on the other hand I love the idea of the whole dream thing that would be great. let's hope we still have mike around and all the original cast members. I love DH and I hope they won't jump 5 years ahead.

HERE'S THE INFO ON SUSAN'S NEW GUY AT THE END OF THE SEASON!!!
Gale Harold is his name and he is mostly known for his role on the Showtime drama "Queer as Folk" where he played a gay playboy. He is an AMAZING actor and I applaud the show for giving him a straight role just like they did with Lynette's husband Tom, who used to play a gay character in "Melrose Place". In the old days it was actors were typecasted after playing gay characters and it's nice to see Hollywood growing up!. Ladies, you will LOVE Gale Harold! And I'm sure Mike Delfino will not be completely gone, so don't fret.
I actually loved the 5 year plan and quit giving LOST a hard time, it's such an excellent show, if you have ADD and can't follow it, then get the dvds and watch if in full. It is one of the most cleverly written shows on television.
I am hopeful and sure that next DH season will start off after 5 years and we will see flashbacks, which is fine with me. It will bring other mysteries into the fray. I'm extremely excited to see Gale Harold back on television and look forward to a very exciting new season this fall!
The only thing I'm upset about is how Edie's character has been handled. I really thought she and Gabi were going to form a strong friendship after the tornado and that she would at least have one friend. She has not been given enough screen time on any season and I hope to see her bouncing back this coming year. In fact, I rather see more of her and less of Susan. I usually get up to do whatever I have to do during Susan's scenes because I find them boring, but maybe not so much after seeing Gale Harold back!
Here's other movies that Gale has done:
Harold's film credits include "Social Grace," directed by B.D. Wong; "The Unseen," directed by Lisa France; Lewis Helfer's "Life On The Ledge"; "Fathers and Sons" directed by Jared Rappaport; Jennifer Elster's "Particles of Truth"; Aaron Woodley's "Rhinoceros Eyes" and "Wake" by Roy Finch; as well as guest appearances on the SHOWTIME series STREET TIME and "Law & Order: SVU."

Ugh! I hate the idea, I hated the ending, I was and still am upset they even pulled that crap! Desperate needs to stay with their award winning formula, you know the old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I feel the same way about the ending. I hated the jump and those kids were to old and chunky to be gaby's kids. Where was edde are the going to bring her back I think she added drama to the show and needs more air time. Where is mike and the baby? I really hope there is no 5 year jump.

Yes, the ending was terrible, I really hope that in the season opening someone wakes up and its all just a weird dream. Otherwise this show is going to suck. Maybe thats what they want though, a reason to end the show...

I just saw the last episod of season 4 and I am going crazy! Is there going to be more episod or was that the final for ever?! Please tell me that it will be coming more!
AND please tell me that Susan is going to get back together with Mike! They were suppose to be together and who the H*** is the "new" husband! I am going nuts.
WHEN IS EPISOD 5 COMING OUT?!?! I NEED TO KNOW!
Lina from Sweden!

I agree with most of the previous posts. I liked everything up until the 5 yr jump. The Scavio kids are always in trouble, but you don't want to see them in THAT much trouble. Gabby looked like crap and the kids were way too big/old to fit the 5 yr time frame. Also, where was Carlos? Susan ending up with another guy...not so suprising. Mike has had too many problems and she was bound to get fed up with him. Maybe it will all be a dream or something. I really don't want to see the "LOST effect" of jumping time. If that were the case, I'd watch LOST. Then again, the jump is a good way to shake things up and get a new start.....who knows!

I agree with everyone. That last episode was good up until the 5 year jump!! Yeah and if it were 5 years how the heck did Gaby end up with all those kids and they were definitely older than 5!! I'm hoping this is someone's nightmare and they wake up on the next show. Come on DH get it together.

Well i thought the last episode was very lacking and susan should have stayed with mike cause he was a stand up guy and eva is now fat, something i am not a very big fan of, and her kids are asian something i am not a very big fan of either, did she do a asian guy or something? Most woeful idea ever, Susan sucks for leaving mike!!!!

who cares if the kids are chubby, some kids are. Just announced this morning that DH will start 5 years in the future they are recasting all the kids. James Denton is still a cast member i don't know if he is just in flashbacks or actually still on the show

HI!I´ve just seen the last episode and i got so scared cause i thought that was the last DH episode ever!!!and i was also angry because of the way it ended, it was "ok" to end up like that if that was the last episode, but now that i read that there will be a next season i´m happy because i will be seeing more of these wonderfull show, but i´m sad (or angry) cause now i read that they are starting the next season in that "5 years in later" thing they did. I think they really messed up with that.
Ijust wanted to tell this to someone cause i have nobody to talk to right now.
Bye....

Hi!
I love desperate housewives but I got a little confuse with the ending of this last episode... I think Gabi and Carlos adopt those two horrible girls! LOL
And what's up with Susan and that guy??? What about her little girl with Mike???
Well... It seems we will have to wait for this ansewers right???
And I will have to wait longer than you guys cause I'm brazillian.. And the serie is a little late here...
Bye Bye..
Posted by: Natascha | June 26, 2008 at 01:16 PM
people don't be so dramatic! DH has a brilliant serie and i'm sure that it will continue that way. Even if they really get start with that 5 years jump it will be ok! I like Lost and the idea of jumping 5 years and then explain it, doesn't seem so wrong to me. It could really work people! Let's just wait 'till it start and then we'll talk!
=)

Its been about a month since the end of season 4 of DH! I think that everyone was really surprised by the 5 years ahead jump! I think they are continuing from the 5 year jump because I read an article on People.com that Mike will be returning to the lane but he will be single!
Happy Bits
I am happy for Gabby because she had so many attempts at having children and all of them didn't work out for her so Im really happy for her!
Im happy for Bree causeshe got back with Orson and it looks like she has a big career now!
Im happy for Lynette that it may look like times are tough for her but Im happy that her and Tom are still solid! Well hopefully!
Im happy for Katherine because everyone knows no and she doesn't have her ex following her everywhere and she's a permanent housewife on the lane and that Dilon s getting married!
Im happy for Susan because she looks like she's in love but Im disappointed that she's not with Mike!
Not Happy About!
I think if they do carry on with the 5 year jump they will miss out on a lot of things like . . . . . . . .
Who is the new guy with Susan?
Why did Susan brake up with Mike?
Where is Susan's baby Maynerd?
Where's Mike?
Where is Edie Brit?
Will she come back for a 5th season?
Are Lynette and Tom still as rock solid?
What turned Lynette's boys bad?
Where is Kayla?
Gabrielle being pregnant?
Is Gabrielle still with Carlos?
How would she have two girls in 5 years that look about 8?
Are the two girls adopted?
Why does motherhood make Gabrielle not her glamours self?
What happened to Katherine after the shooting?
Who is Dilon's soon to be husband?
What made Bree forgive Orson?
Where is Benjamin?
Overall Im happy that even though 5 years has past the girls are still close friends!!!
Cant wait for the next season to start in the Fall!!!
DH fan 4 eva!!!
