Naomi's Neurosis
Who would’ve ever guessed that an innocent little cake would drive a woman over the edge? Alright, make that three. Three innocent little cakes. Just sitting on their innocent little cake carriers. Just waiting to be devoured by a certain fertility doctor who has a debilitating weakness for all things chocolate. Yeah, Naomi devoured those innocent little cakes alright. And then she devoured my innocent little spirit.
She totally screamed at me. In front of everyone. She called me a boy. Said that I was “baking cakes at her.” Maybe it was the sugar talking or maybe it was because Naomi’s daughter seems to be liking Sam more these days. Whatever the case may be, I’m hurt. My ego – it’s bruised, man. Addison looked at me like I shouldn’t take Naomi’s breakdown personal, but I can’t help it…
Chocolate, chocolate chip, and double fudge with chocolate frosting. My grandmother slaved over those cakes. You know, I was doing Naomi a favor. I was giving her what she wanted. Because that’s what I do. I figure out what women want and I give it to them. Naomi wanted my cakes. And as much as she hates to admit it, Naomi still wants my cakes. Just you wait…
But enough about the cakes. Was there a full moon this week? Because there have been some pretty crazy things happening around here. First off – we had four blue girls come in the other day. Blue. Not depressed. Not sad. Not downtrodden because somebody yelled at them for baking cakes, but… Actually, really, totally blue.
Cooper has pictures. They’ll make some really awesome Christmas cards. I guess the girls were gettin’ high and turnin’ blue while inhaling toxic fumes from open fertilizer bags in their “Magic Castle.” I had a “Magic Castle” once. Long story, different blog…
Okay, back to the cakes real quick… Now that I think about it, I was actually doing ALL of the women in the office a favor with those cakes of mine. Not just Naomi. Addison too, I saw her nibbling all day. And, Violet? Oh yeah, I saw her sneaking a few bites in here and there as well. Violet thought nobody was looking, but I see everything. I can’t blame her, though – those cakes are insane – and, Violet needed a little pick me up after her patient’s wife literally spit blood all over her…
It turned out the woman suffered from Wegener's disease. She was actually hiding it from her husband (Violet’s patient). What’s crazy is that Violet had finally gotten this dude to make a break through (he was determined to leave his wife), but, in the end, after he discovered his wife’s illness – even though SHE LIED ABOUT IT – he just couldn’t go through with it. He just couldn’t move on.
Ah, the need to move on. Now that’ s something Violet should know quite a bit about.
Anyway, what else – Oh, it’s been raining here. Two days in a row. Surprise, surprise, it does actually rain in Los Angeles. A lot more than you’d like to think. A lot more than some world class neonatal surgeons like to admit. Addison had a hard time with this one. She thought she had left all the rain in Seattle. I think she’s learned that there are some things – such as, I don’t know, Mother Nature – that she can’t escape.
I’ll tell you something else that Addison can’t escape… Pete’s thing. Yep – Try as she might, Addison just can’t avoid getting a little help from good old, herbal God Pete.
Addison’s patient suffered from something called “vaginismus.” Which, contrary to popular belief, is not exactly a Christmas for her vagina. It’s actually a condition that prohibits a woman from having sex.
Anyway – Pete told Addison he might be able to help, but Addison was having none of that. She didn’t want Pete’s thing. As far as Addison was concerned, Pete could just keep his thing all to himself. Then, for some reason, Addison changed her mind and decided to play nice. She asked Pete for his thing, and - next thing she knew – her patient had sex. With her husband, of course. (Who, by the way, was extremely grateful.)
Addison and Pete – They bicker. They banter. That’s their thing. It’s kinda fun to watch. It sure beats getting SCREAMED AT FOR HAVING YOUR GRANDMOTHER BAKE A FEW CAKES.
I’m sorry, I know I said enough about the cakes, but the emotional scars seem to be taking their sweet old time to heal. No, no, I’ll be okay, don’t worry.
I’m man enough to admit it. Maybe I did make a slight judgment error. It doesn’t happen too often, I know, but let’s just say this… Maybe Naomi does, in fact, want my cake. Perhaps she’ll want a black forest or a chocolate lava cake tomorrow. There’s really no telling, but the point is: It’s my cake that Naomi wants. But it’s not what she needs.
I should probably figure that last part out. What does Dr. Naomi Bennett need? I’ve got a few ideas, but I guess only time will tell if I’m right….

I know what Naomi needs!

Dell dear boy, you are seriously growing on me lovey. I just can't help it because I have to see the man I spent most of my adult life with move on like nothing's happened. It hurts and its wounded my ego. You on the other hand are really good for my ego. Throw in some flowers, make a romantic cd for me, write me notes just to remind me that I'm desirable and maybe.. just maybe we can play doctor. xoxo, NaNa

Dell, what the hell were you thinking? Baking cakes at Naomi?! Are you insane? Try a less obvious approach like perhaps maybe just being there when and if she needs to talk. Paying attention (but not obsessively staring) may help. What am I saying?! I'm encouraging a nine year old to go after my best friend and show her the magic! Clearly, I need to find some magic of my own but that's beside the point. Good luck with that thing you do and slow down on the offering of sweets dangit! Get back to work! ~Addison

I enjoyed this last episode even more than the first two. Its probably because we got to see more of the characters rather than the medical storylines. Don't get me wrong, I love the medical cases but I want to know a little more about each character. I love this bond that is forming between Naomi, Violet and Addison. Addison has more than just one female friend. Yay! Cooper and the fairy wand was priceless. I am loving this guy more and more each week. It was so touching to see that he witnessed Violet erasing the message. Violet, score!! I was so proud of her! It was the first step towards dropping the Alan thing. The man was obviously no good for her yet she still held on. Naomi and Sam make me sad. I feel so bad because you can see she still has it bad for him. He's kind of just indifferent to the whole thing. I wonder if Charlotte is going to play into their story in the future? Pete and Addison were interesting. They have that spark that can only grow with time. I do like that things are moving slow with the two of them. Its almost as if there was a temporary truce in their bickering, long enough for them to acknowledge that they identify with one another. Pete's story is completely shocking! I thought his wife was going to be some kind of Saint that Addison would have to live up to but apparently I was waaaay wrong, lol. I like that Pete doesn't believe in magic or perfection because he'll be that much more pleasantly surprised when it finally happens for him. Th Addison is still herself but she's opening her mind now to more possiblities while acknowledging the fact that life will never be perfect but having people around to help her through the rough patches is all that matters. Two thumbs up to my favorite show!!
Oh and that Dell guy is actually starting to grow on me. I'd take Addie's advice about paying attention ;)Good luck with that!

I loved this episode. Finally something to chew on. Pete's story should be very interesting and Im looking foward to getting to know him better. Addison and Pete are cute, but I dont want the writers trying so hard to make us like them. Just let it happen. Addison was back on her game and herself! And Dell youre awesome. The cake thing was brillant. He can bake me cakes anytime!

Umm, yeah, everything that Trouble said above.
I am falling more and more in love with this show every Wednesday. LOVE the Naomi/Dell storyline. They could probably be my fav May/December pair ever! Time will tell but just slow your roll a little bit there, Dell. And love everyone else on the show. Cooper and Violet are awesome friends with great chemistry and I love the bonds of all the women.
This is such a cute show!

dear dell, you were very cute this last episode. i feel sorry that Naomi had to scream at you for "baking cakes at her", but you gotta understand, she still wants sam's cake, not anybody else's. ya gotta give her some space. anyhoo, violet does need to move on and despite what her patient's final decision was i think she still rocks as a shrink. Cooper putting on lipgloss was a bit too much but it was cute of him to kind of "sympathize" with the opposite sex. Last but not the least Addison and Pete should definitely keep up the bickering cos they're cute like that. The sparks were there from the start and they're still, well, sparking. I truly hope Addison finds her magic (but I miss her with Mark.. anyway.. that's another show..heh)
thanks for the update. can't wait for the next one!

Dell, don't give up on Naomi. She is still in mourning but she has to stop eventually and get on witht he business of living. Just be there when she does.

Oh Honey. I think you're sweet and comforting and understanding...and totally not what Naiomi wants nor needs. She's a grown, divorced, opinionated mother, and to her you are a boy. What she needs is to define herself outside of her child and husband...even her job. You guys will probably get together, but the results will be as disasterous as George and Meredith (Ask Addie about those two).

Please spruce this show up! You have amazing talent and boring story lines! Put these people in relationships and not just dancing around them. Adults do have relationships- show them! Take Naomi out of the dulldrums- the women who eat cake to drown their sorrows is so boring already.
Why can't these people have real conversations? Why doesn't Naomi speak back to Sam except sounding like an idiot? It is okay if she still likes him, but she shouldn't sound stupid.
Get Addison out in the real world. And Amy Brenneman, come on! Give her something else to do. Crying over a guy for ten episodes. Get her out in the world.
How about:
1. Addison has a real talk to Tim Daly about what he does- she still doesn't really know- why not explore why he chose that profession.
2. Why can't Naomi meet someone her own age and be confronted with realizing that her self worth is not determined solely based on how Sam sees her.
3. Have Amy Brenneman meet someone new- maybe someone worse than her ex but with better qualities than her ex in certain areas so she can realize what about her ex she liked and try to find that in others.
4. Have Addision talk about Mark (from Grey's) and give insight into why she strayed- and what about Mark she liked and Derrick. She needs to start figuring out what she is looking for besides continuously confirming that it isn't one night stands.
Let's get these people on the move....

ah, Dell, tough week...you overcaked Naomi. Too much too soon. You should have spaced out your cakes. She's hurting so she kinda went postal on you-called you a boy. I do hope she's apologized for that, but look, you'll just have to prove to her that you're a man- not a boy, won't you? Show her who you are. I don't say it'll necessarily be easy, but it's doable.
About her"debilitating weakness for all things chocolate". I see what you mean, it's sooo irresistable but chocoholism can be such an annoying addiction.
Maybe you'll eventually be able to help her get over that with your tempting and delicious "cakes". lol Limiting oneself to one particular flavor isn't always a great thing, you know...
What does Dr. Bennet want? I don't know-a Christmas present, maybe? Oh- Guess it's a bit early in the season for that, though.
Anyway, keep trying to discern what it is she really needs and I'm sure you'll eventually come to know her heart.

great episode, guys

(Where's the update for Oct 17?)

Dear Dell,
Hey Honey I Totally think that you should bake her a cake with "I Love You" Written On It. Most Ladies Think that would be really sweet. P.S. Make sure its chocolate!!
Posted by: CakeMaker | October 23, 2007 at 06:49 PM
Dell, I would love it if your Grandmother would bake me a cake. Those cakes looked so good. I promise I won't yell at you. You can bake cakes at me all day long. And then we can go visit Izzie in Seatle, upset her, and have her bake cupcakes and muffins at us. Sure we'll put on quite a bit of weight, but I'd rather be fat and happy than skinny and miserable.
