The Return of the Writers
Hiya Peeps!
Did you even have time to miss us?
Believe it or not, we are nearing the end of our second week back on the writers' floor of Brothers & Sisters. "Summer vacation" is over and it's raining outside... it really feels like October. I kind of wish I could hop in a time machine to autumn, because Burbank gets HOT in the summer. (Thank goodness for air conditioning. Seriously.) More importantly, in the fall we'll greet another season of Brothers & Sisters!
Seeing as how we're in the planning and plotting stages of the season, the writers have been hosting various experts to speak about topics relevant to the show. Yesterday we welcomed a wine expert, complete with a tasting (I really wish I'd taken pictures). Ah, the joys of rigorous research!
The writers are currently meeting with a [spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler]. Exciting stuff! (Sorry.)
But one of the coolest things to happen to us so far is this!
Hot off the presses! Cole is pumped.
That's right, Brothers & Sisters on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter! Thanks, ABC!
Lots of love, everybody. Wish you were here.
xoxo

Is this my blog debut? My blogging-out party? I have a face. Yep.

Excellent can not wait for next season! Hope to see more stories with the 'single' Sarah, the stuff last season with Christian Delafuente as a guest was hot! Hear Gilles Marini signing? If so that should be interesting. Hope some work between Kitty and Rob will help solve their relationship probs, I really like them as a couple :)

Nice to see John Glover just got nominated for a Tony and just remembered that Ron Rifkin's won at least one. Could we get a more substantial storyline with these two? Together, they could really bring a powerful story to the screen and bring another emmy to B&S!!!!

Season 3 has been fantastic, i have loved every episode!! Love the Kitty/Robert storyline!! I don't like Ryan, but in some weird way, i like the fact that i don't like him. Where i love every other character, he gives me someone to hate!! I can not wait for season 4, if its anything like season 3, i will be pleased!! Can not wait for season 4, your doing a fantastic job!! Brothers and Sisters rocks!!

Please let the love interest be Sarah instead of Kitty - she has had enough of men. It's time to see Sarah back in action.

I'm looking forward to the next season!
Please let Kevin and Scotty have more screentime and storyline and free Kevin from Robert.
Posted by: Ana | June 11, 2009 at 03:19 AM
I'm wholeheartedly seconding Ana!
Get Kevin away from Robert, please please please.

Maybe the show could delve more into the Ojai Food company. Many people in America don't realize that many food companies use child and slave labor in this and other countries. Maybe Ryan as a green party member could expose this.
I also can relate when the family members banter (fight) about politics since this is a popular note of contention in my family.

Pleaseee bring back Tommy !

Sometimes it would be best to NOT rewatch season 1 at all...
I was just reminded of Kevin's speech to Kitty when she wanted to go work for McCallister.
“…. The day you start working for that guy, it’s not about what you believe in anymore, it’s about what he DOES. And there’s not one single thing in all this legislation, in all these speeches, that suggests that he will do what is best for ME. In fact there’s a lot of evidence to the contrary…”
I once loved this speech SO much. You have no idea how sad it makes me to see how pointless and a lot BS these once great words turned out to be in the end.
Posted by: Sylviane | June 15, 2009 at 02:39 AM
Thanks a lot, Sylviane, for making me sad. That was one of my favorite Kevin & Kitty stories. It showed how families deal with political differences, especially over matters that are deeply personal to one of them.
I liked Kevin & Robert arguments before the poorly executed employment story. I even liked the idea that the two of them might start to get along better personally. But I'm surprised that people in supposedly "superliberal" Hollywood don't realize that suddenly ignoring strongly held political opinions and worshiping at the altar of someone you fundamentally disagree with, EVEN IF you like them personally or if they're your in-law, just does NOT happen. It's offensive to me because I take my political beliefs seriously and hold myself to a standard of conduct and integrity accordingly. In the past, Kevin has done so as well, even if it results in conflict with his loved ones. It's absolutely disgusting and unbelievable how quickly he drank the Robert McCallister Kool-Aid. This "plot" did a great disservice to his characterization. Do I expect people to be the same in season 3 as in season 1? No. Do I believe that they would change so much from what the quoted speech - as well as many other scenes - demonstrated? Absolutely not.
PLEASE get Kitty and Robert back together if for no other reason than so RL can act against CF again instead of forcing MR to pick up the slack - when he could be in much more satisfying, IN-CHARACTER scenes with just about any other cast member. Maybe then he (and, gasp, Scotty) could get a storyline of his own. Can anyone honestly remember a Kevin and Robert working-together scene that served a purpose OTHER than forwarding Robert's storylines? The closest one I can think of is after Kevin's hunting tantrum where he questioned the role his relationship with his father played in him taking the job. That scene lasted all of 5 seconds before ending with Robert turning it back to him. If you're looking to understand Kevin's feelings or behaviors about ANYTHING anymore...don't blink.
Sigh. Free Kevin!

Word to your entire post, S.L. Watching Kevin pre- season 3 feels like a twist of the knife now. The violation of his character in S3 was despicable and an utter disappointment. If they can't make him speak and act with Robert like our trueblue Kevin would, then they should extract him from Robert's orbit.
Give us diehard Kevin fans something to look forward to for the next season: FREE KEVIN!

It's easy to always be negative, but today, I watched 2.15 again.
That scene with Saul/Kevin in the car is just AMAZING. It makes me cry every time I see it. Just how broken Saul is and how sweet, but also honest Kevin is. It feels SO real.
It remains excellent no matter how many times I see it. (And I have SEEN it, a lot of times.) It's moments like that that remind me why I love this show so much.
And I don't REALLY have to tell what I thought of the K/S proposal, do I? ;)

Please please please write something like in the first season. The 3rd wasn't bad at all, but I missed the "magic" from season 1.
More Rachel Griffiths story line.
And we (the fans) would like a download area (screensavers, desktop backrounds, icons) on the homepage, as any other Show has.
Hope you will air Sundays after DH and the show will be not moved to Wednesday!

I hope this blog will be updated again soon. It would be nice to read more about how things are going with season 4.
Whether your plans have been accepted, when the new season will start, how many episodes there will be.
Just curious, you know. We still have at least 3 months to bridge. Give us something to talk/gossip/argue about. ;)

Random mostly-positive comments of the day. I was watching some old episodes, and I always forget just how much I love the Ida episode until I see it again. You should try to find a way to bring her back - I would love to hear what she has to say about recent developments in the Walker family!
Not to mention the episode Bad News. Kevin with the kids is great. (Face paint! Connect Four!) He would definitely be my favorite uncle. And I absolutely love the well-acted, very understated scene between Sarah and Joe by the fire (and their other scenes in that episode). You really could see who they had been, how much they had loved each other and still did, how it ultimately would fail despite their best efforts. Compliments to both actors in that episode (a real nice change of pace from the counseling episode earlier that season that was IMO way too "watch us ACT!")
And 36 Hours! The family banding together to help Justin. The three brothers scenes! One of my all-time favorites.
Today, I'm full of love for the show. It's a nice feeling. (I've missed it.)

I'd LOVE to see Ida back. Not only because I like the actress, but I too, would like to see her reactions to the changes.
Does she know by now that Saul is gay? I can imagine this is not a topic he'd discuss with her.
Does she know that Kevin is married? She was mentioned during the McKitty marriage, but we didn't hear why she wasn't at Kevin/Scotty's wedding.
Imagine her meeting Scotty and Henry. :D
I agree about "36 hours". But I liked the Kevin/Tommy moments the best.
At first when Kevin admits to never hearing from Jason, it was nice to see Tommy make an effort to comfort Kevin.
And then later in the kitchen when they both talked about William and infidelity. It was rather intimate, like I was really eaves-dropping on a normal conversation between 2 brothers. Well played by both actors.
