This Sunday-- Call Your Mom

Brotherssisters167

A dramatic re-enactment of the fact that almost everybody is on vacation now.

Greetings, brothers and sisters who enjoy viewing "Brothers & Sisters." This is Elysse, aka Last Assistant Standing on the writers' floor (okay, Todd is still around, but I am going to seize the title for my own bloggish purposes).

Cole has fled the state. Spoiler alert: He's headed back to his home state of Texas. Yeehaw! (He'll be back before you can miss him too terribly.)

Beth, Dan and Marc are not here right now because they are trapped in a photograph. See if you can figure out how to free them:

Stil0080

Do you recognize Marc from the two-hour special? He's quite the chameleon.

Here are some ideas for how you can spend your Sunday nights until the next new episode airs, while keeping the Walkers in your hearts:

-You can stage a "family dinner" for your friends and/or family, in the style of the Walkers. Mid dinner, do something that nobody expected. Perhaps introduce a half sibling to your unsuspecting guests (you can "pull a Rebecca" and invite a non-biological half-sibling, or go "full Ryan" and find a real one).

-You can have a competitive game night with your neighbors (that's season one retro-Walker).

-You can cavort with nature-- maybe a romantic walk through Griffith Park a la Justin and Rebecca, or a surfing trip like we just saw in "Spring Broken."

-You can read a book-- or even write a book! If you make it about your family, tread lightly. (Remember when the Walkers found out about Kitty's book? Meow!)

-You can try to cook an exotic or experimental dish, just like one of our 5 L.A. Chefs on the Rise might do on his or her night off.

Any other suggestions?

This might not be a good idea (Remember that time I asked everybody to be friends? Remember how nobody really liked that idea?), but since there's no new episode to comment on this week, maybe we can use this as a chance to discuss which character we most identify with, or which character's house we'd most like to live in... you know, the type of thing we might do if we were all sitting around in a circle. I think I'm a Kevin because I'm a good-natured neurotic (among other things), and I'm a big fan of Holly's house (and its decor) in Silver Lake. How about you?

xoxo,
Elysse

I have to say that I love Kevin's loft (even though it doesn't have a kitchen!). The brick walls, the interior, everything is just perfect!

oh and I can't wait for the new episode!

Charlie.

I loved Justin's loft in the beginning of the series. Even though the location was alittle rouge, it was pretty awesome. Im not going to say who I feel I am able to connect with on Brothers & Sisters but the characters I admire the most is Justin and Kevin. Justin for everything hes been throught and Kevin for his whitty sarcasm and dry sense of humor.

Well, according to Matthew Rhys' set tour, that loft doesn't have a real bedroom either. They really do need a bigger place.

That said, I really want Nora's kitchen. And I can't even cook.

Mitchell

I'd say I identify with Scotty/Kevin: I find myself being a little bit of both. Plus, I would have to take their cool loft type pad, some of the best moments have happend in that apartment/loft. However, I love Nora's house, it's huge and ideal, and the kitchen is everything you could ask for.

Andy

I feel like I'm not a true B&S fan all of the sudden because I didn't know there wasn't a new episode tonight. However, in my defense, I don't like to watch the preview at the end of the episode for the next week because I don't want it to be spoiled for me. That being said, can someone please tell me when the next episode will be on? :)

Can someone tell me when the next new episode is going to air? Please.

Rachel

I love Justin and Rebecca the most, especially when they're together of course...
oh, and I admire Sarah's character - she is so smart and so strong, and don't forget - funny!! Love her

Kamryn

I feel like i connect with Justin the most. I know how it feels to totally fall off the deep end and then have to fight to get back up. It takes so long and it is hard to keep going, even if you know you have the potential to do something wonderful with your life. I hope the writers keep Justin on the track of Dr. Justin. Not to mention how great he will look in scrubs!!

Susan

I feel that I connect with Sarah. She has a strong personality and she tells it like it is. As far as the houses, I love Noras too. She has the best kitchen and livingroom. I can't wait for the new episodes!!!!

Clayton

I cannot wait for Chad's return. I hope it does shake things up a little and gives Scotty a good scare so he stops being so boring and stepford.

On the other hand, I hope this is not one of your set-ups to make Kevin look like an idiot again and beg for St. Scotty's forgiveness.

The person I mostly identify with would be s1 and s2-Kevin when he was still a lawyer and on top of that still had a character. Good times.

Sylviane

I am not sure which of the characters I identify with most.

Kevin is my favorite. I guess his sarcasm comes close to my own. His loyalty to those he loves is very familiar, as is the way that everyone always EXPECTS him to be there when they need him. Very annoying, very recognizable. :(

At the start I used to identify strongly with Sarah and her way to try handle work and family, but not so much anymore, because I missed the children around her, I was very glad to see Paige and Cooper again and to get a reminder that she is a mother TOO.

My favorite place would be Kevin's loft. No real surprise there.

There was thread on the B&S forum about the loft and it was great fun to try to take it apart. What would it look like if it were a real place...

It's a fun place to nit-pick about. Although there isn't much about Kevin/Scotty that is NOT being picked apart. It sometimes seems to me their scenes are more closely watched than any other person's on the show.

Having finally been able to see the set thanks to Matthew's tour on "The View" it makes more sense now.

But it is still fun to be amazed by the fact that Kevin and Scotty don't only constantly move their furniture about, but also their windows and walls regularly change place.

Or wonder how on Earth Kevin/Scotty manage to get a closet in the place that is supposed to be the bathroom when it's not big enough to fit both. (Hey, you have to have SOMETHING to do during summer hiatus.)

And it's all in good fun, we are all aware it's a set and not a real house. But it gives us something to do in those days that we are deprived of B&S. Like now.

I also like the loft because it such an organized mess.

It's what I like about the houses of Kevin/Sarah/Nora, that it is not meticulously clean. Sometimes you watch series and the houses seem so 'sterile' that you cannot imagine someone actually living there. But Sarah's house and Kevin's always give me the impression that they are being lived in.

Speaking of Holly's house, I was surprised to see during the tour how lovely it is. It somehow seems to me, we never really to get see that. I love the wall, where you can write on in her kitchen, that was a very good idea.

Nat

I would like to live in the Glasshouse for sure! With real chances of breaking the fancy objects, of course, but still...

Kitty it's not only my favorite character but also my obsession, she's so smart and talks so fast and so passionate... actually she was all that, and i wanted to be like her but not anymore. Now she's just a mother who dropped work, when her workaholic energy was exactly her thing... i'm disappointed, please bring old Kitty back!

Carlos

I love B&S. It's the best TV show in years. I love Sarah and Kevin. Sally Fields as always a tremendous star. She brings the cast together like no one else does.
Great show. Hope it runs for years to come.

To Andy:

B&S starts up again on April 19th. Four consecutive weeks of episodes starting with episode 321 "S3X" which is a great episode btw. ;)

Dear Elysse,

I think I'll suppress my expectations of episode 321 despite the glowing praise that has already been received. One person's positive view is hardly worth getting excited about, is it?

I used to identify most with Scotty back when he actually had an interesting personality. Now he's just unrealistically perfect and a tad boring for my tastes. I hope he will be instilled with more colour and layers in Season 4. Yes, I have written Season 3 off in my books. A pity, really.

I had the pleasure of meeting Luke Macfarlane after his brilliant performance in 'The Jazz Age' and I think he has a lot of potential in portraying a more complex and less saint-like Scotty. I hope such potential is explored in Season 4.

I like Kevin's loft the best, particularly the couch. This is where we could find Scotty for most of Season 3. Surely there are more storylines that could revolve around him and Kevin, other than scheduling appointment sex and considering proposals of the third kind?

I do believe that Scotty could have had more of a say when it came to Kevin's professional decision to work for Robert? Anyway, I trust this nonsense will be put to bed when Season 4 struts along. I doubt that anyone buys Kevin as a blubbering lackey for Robert.

Perhaps the writers/producers will return from their breaks and reinvigorate the show to what it used to be. For starters, please give Scotty more to do than making appropriate facial expressions and sprouting a few glib remarks.

Kind regards,
Lucas
