New Episode Sunday -- "Sexual Politics"

Hello there friends.

A fabulous NEW episode this Sunday, expertly wrought by new writers Monica Owusu-Breen and Alison Schapker and directed by Sandy Smolan.

Obsessors over Kevin's love life will have plenty to chew on this weekend, as our wry and charming lawyer meets the ultimate match for his romantic dysfunction. In other news, Kitty fears that her coworkers in the Senator's office suspect romantic coupling... and this not entirely baseless fear drives her to the most desperate of measures: an executive matchmaker.

As I said, plenty to chew on... so whatever you consume over the weekend, leave room for Sunday at 10pm on your favorite couch.

Faithfully,
Dan

Loose Change: Most of the Master Cleansers, or as I like to call them, the Delusionals, have fallen. Only the mighty remain: David Marshall Grant, Gladys, and Carl.

I "was" enjoying the show until "2 men" started kissing. If this keeps up I will stop watching the show.

A fine episode, some really good lines, but it was very rushed, IMO. This hasn't been a problem since the early episodes, but it was last night. Maybe it's all the new characters that keep getting added, either short term or long term. There was more than enough in the pilot as is, certainly enough to last a season, but every episode it seems like there are more and more characters added (like the matchmaker, Nora's date, Kevin's new interest + his girlfriend, and a Mom). Five in one episode. While these might not all last, and I'm sure they won't, we didn't get Saul, Justin and Holly, three main characters that are extremely interesting. That's a big problem. We also lost a lot of the family interaction, although what we did get was SO good. The family interaction is what the show should be about, this is when the show is at its best so I have to admit I don't get why so many more characters are added because all they're doing is taking away what's best about the show and making everything rushed because there's not enough time to focus on the characters that you already have.

Oh well, there's always next week.

I am a loyal fan of this show. I love the characters and the intricacies of the characters and family dynamic. I will say that I am upset about a couple of things. First being the total sell out the show has taken with Kevin. Sorry but not all gay men are so shallow as to "fall" for some self-absorbed, unintelligent, insignificant piece of "meat" as Jason Lewis. You have basically made Kevin a true slut....sleeping with a anonymous military guy and now some insipid, narcissistic soap star. The first relationship you had Kevin in with Luke MacFarlane(believe that was his real name) was real. Don't turn Kevin into a character from Queer as Folk. (I despised that show) Also, Patricia Wettig needs to go. Adding her to the company employment was ridiculous and so cliche. She truly adds NOTHING to the show. Please return to your roots (however young they are) and bring back shows with true substance. I love the path Sally Field is going trying to figure out who she is as a late middle-aged woman widowed and with grown kids. I still love this show big time but I am truly annoyed by your exploitation of Kevin. Also to those on here who will not watch because GOD FORBID Kevin kissed a man on the show....get over it...it is no more disgusting than seeing a man and woman on t.v. "slobbering" all over each other. Take off your bigoted blinders and live in the real world.
Look forward to better upcoming shows.

As soon as your show came out, I fell in love with it. Both my daughter and I looked forward to every sunday to watch the show. However, that just changed recently when you started showing gay scenes, especially kissing. That is NOT really necessary! Please stop trying to shove that on our throats. I don't have anything wrong with two gay couples but why is it that you have to start showing those unnecesasry scenes. I wont be watching your show anymore and believe me I used to love it!

Tommy has grown on me... Julia has not. They are about as entertaining to watch together as watching paint dry.

And I also find Sarah's martial problems so obvious and played out.

I want more Sarah/Kitty scenes in the future.

Calista and Rob are great together, but where can it really go?

I'd love to see Warren (Josh Hopkins one last time).

I'd also love if it if Michael Beach (Noah) could return.

Bev- so glad you enjoy living such a prejudice lifestyle. Time to get out of your closet maybe, it's 2007!

Kevin's storyline was the only thing that truly worked about last night.

Bev: With due respect, perhaps you should just switch stations & spare us the grief. Kevin's sowing some oats for a few more weeks & you have a delicate sensibility. Sit this one out.
Kitty, padding her butt with SILICONE to add a little "junk to the trunk"? And a shot of her jiggling rear-end played for....SLAPSTICK? Why were Norah & Kitty vetted, counceled, dressed & manipulated by this "matchmaker" - ? My jaw dropped. This whole "matchmaker" sub-plot was dumbfoundingly misconceived. I can't for a second believe the men were "handled" this way - poked & prodded & told what to wear, told to add product to their hair. These women are beautiful & successful in their own right. They're "catches".....yet treated like high-class call girls. If this segment were a Monopoly game, DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT $200, go directly to jail. Bev, why don't you worry more about our 2 favorite ladies practically being humiliated? Junk in the trunk? Instead, you're fuming over 2 guys kissing.
Soap opera dude's kinda cute. Wish he had smarts. (I like a brainy guy). Guess you can't have it all. Let Kev play the field & work out some aggresion on soap opera guy. But NOT fall in love! Definately not.

Trevor

Jason Lewis just gave and interview with extra where he said kissing another guy was "scary." What did I tell you Will and Scott?

I said it was stunt casting and I WAS PROVEN RIGHT!!!!!

Karen

I was thinking the girl in the last scene with Chad was Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig's daughter, too, but I can't find anything on the cast for this episode.

I gotta get this off my chest: Why is it everyone SAYS they're OK with gay men.....but throw a relationship or one-night-stand or "kiss" into the mix & people's panties get in a bunch? This is SO disturbing to me. "CAC" says she has a gay brother (comment left somewhere above) but she'll be "darned" if she has to watch 2 guys or gals kiss. LISTEN UP CAC: I've had to watch STRAIGHT couples kiss all my life. I've dealt with it! Now your turn to show the same respect. This is the diversity of America. If you don't like it, move to the middle-east! (Oh no. They might put you in a burka, then YOU'LL know intolerance). How can I say this in a kind way? You're doing your gay brother no favors with this attitude. You're the reason gay people disassociate themselves with their families.

lisa

I agree with bev. I am going to have to exercise my right to not watch the show anymore, I do not agree with watching two men kissing each other all the time, otherwise it is a good show.

Kathy

You definitely went way too far with the kissing scene between Kevin and the guy who had a girlfriend that was away and he was from the gym. It made my stomach churn to the point I turned the show off. It is one thing that Kevin is gay but its another to show scenes that aren't acceptable to MOST of America.

Meghan

If "Brothers and Sisters" continues showing disgusting kissing scenes of two of the same sex then i am NOT going to watch it anymore!

Jeff

The show is great in any aspect that they show in life. I dont think that Showing gay men kiss is so bad. Its an everyday thing that you see unless your living under a rock. Great show guys dont stop what your doing a reason for staying up late on sunday nights!

Maxine

Last night's episode was very good, except there was way to much Rob Lowe and Calista. Last night they seemed to drag the whole episode down. I don't understand why so much love is given to these two, who quite frankly I find to be the most boring of the whole show. It's not fair on the other actors whose stories have been pushed to the back burner. I was looking forward to seeing more about Justin and Sarah. And poor Tommy pop's up every now a then. The show needs more balance, and this can be achieved by bringing in the lives of the other Brothers And Sisters. Please don't make this the Lowe/Calista show, they're just not that interesting.

Now to Kevin's storyline... I was very disappointed to see Kevin acting like a 15 year old school boy over a man so deeply closeted. And i'm sorry, but I didn't see much chemistry between Jason Lewis and Matthew Rhys, who acted the heck out of his part. It was because of Mr Rhys that the attraction between Kevin and Chad seemed plausable. I don't care how 'hot' looking Jason Lewis is suppose to be, debatable in my book when paired with the beautiful Matthew Rhys, whose role as a gay man has been superb, but Mr Lewis left me cold last night.

I love the way Kevin has been written up till now. This educated, mature and beautiful man acted like a child in a candy store. And I can't stand to think of the head job this is going to have on him, because we all know this relationship is going to end in disaster. And to think he left the lovely Scotty for this.

Jeffrey, January 14, 2007 at 07:56pm...I totally agree with you sentiments. I felt the same way last night as I watched.

Let's keep the storylines interesting. This is a unique show. ABC has something special with Brothers And Sisters, and it's showing with the ever increasing ratings of steady rising fanbase.

Jaymee

I have to say, the show has pushed yet again the envelop for gay persona to be normalize... However, last night was the night I watched the show where two guys were just "acting," it felt forced and there was no chemistry... blah ...!

I really like shows that feels like it's not a show. Ever had those feelings? Like life imitates art kinda thing... yes, cliche... but last night was the first time I would say the gay characters were superficial... To the point were it's such a fantasy than could be reality...

Other than that, Calista and the rest of the gang nailed their parts... LOVED IT!

P.S. When is the Scotty/Kevin story arc coming back? (or won't there be any?) Missing Scotty while watcing Kevin kissed Chad... :(

John

When Brothers and Sisters first started, I thought it was a really good new show. But since then it seems to be more and more gay things. If this trend continues I am going to go elsewhere on sunday nights.

To David in NY:
David, I remember when Ally McBeal received a Golden Globe, David Kelley said, "Calista IS Ally McBeal." Perhaps we're seeing more of Calista on B&S, rather than
more of Ally.

I loved Ally because she represented a little bit of all of us. She's one of my all-time favorite characters. I love that girl/woman!

Donna

I enjoyed this show UNTIL TONIGHT! It's one thing to have a gay character on the show, but completely another to watch two men kiss! (or two women)...UNBELIEVABLE...I too will excercize my right to turn the show off permanently if it continues.

Getta Grippe

Bye Bye, Bev!

James

Gay men kissing, NO! what you were watching was two straight men kissing, one of them who says he thinks it's "scary". The problem is the Kiss is fake by two actors who really can'nt get passed their fear.

Jim

I don't know if anyone in authority reads this but I hope so and I hope you'll pay attention when I say that if I see one more homosexual mouth to mouth scene this show will get cut from my viewing list IMMEDIATELY. I really like this show but ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

Charlotte

Gosh I hate watching heterosexuals kissing, no matter if it is man/woman or woman/man. Please keep this out of a otherwise good show!

Jessie

Loved the episode - this is honestly the best show on television. Not sure why gay kissing phases so many people, Kevin's storyline is wonderful and he is by far my favourite character. I just wish all his kissing shots weren't blocked by someone's shoulder!
