Beautiful words from Robbie! Just read his posting.
I am telling you, this show has the potential to become a touchstone, seminal drama of the....oh, dammit, what do you call this decade?
Robbie writes: "Nora is a feminist with a heart, no idealogue, but a humanist." This is so LIBERATING. Not only are we re-claiming the term "feminist" (conservatives have demonized the term, as they have with "liberal") but FEMINISM is what Sally does extremely well. She's gutsy & individual. We RESPOND when she blithely speaks her mind....Robbie also writes about Kevin - "he will continue to be drawn to beauty, both inner & outer, & will continue to be essentially confused and lonely and uncertain about what he wants." Yes, yes, yes! I read that & thought "Heidi Chronicles"....one guy's journey, a changing social climate....yet he's still essentially confused & uncertain (like Heidi). This is a touching real starting point for character exploration.
This show is LIBERATING! I'm jazzed. A long time coming. Not just Kevin's storyline. Everyone's. The TV Gods are smiling on you. :-)

Truly ispiring, transforming, Robbie...that you guys are so completely committed to this Kevin journey. Wow.
Gay viewers like me have been burned constantly....gay character is introduced on network TV, and DISAPPEARS....is killed off....or it's just a 1-episode cameo....or no real "focus" on their storyline is detailed....(networks succumb to pressure groups, the "focus on the family"-type crowd)....or gay character becomes advice-giver & "confidante" to the female lead (always the bridesmaid, never the bride)...they're wallpaper essentially, background noise in search of a story....or they are "gay" but not allowed to be actually SEXUAL, on par with the other hetero-sex storylines....ALWAYS 2nd-class citizens in TVland!
I have this great strong feeling that you're willing to shake it up a bit, break the "mold" such as it is, & give us NEW. Outside-the-box (the TV box) plotlines. Audiences will respond. Give us something that shows us HOW WE LIVE NOW, with all the characters, & people'll tune in. I've always liked that Susan Sontag title "The Way We Live Now". Sounds refreshing. Beautiful. The way we live now.

Oh, I'm so glad.

I'm tired of the gay agenda. It's pushed on us in every new and even old shows. I can't even let my kids watch TV with me because of the fact that I see things just like I saw the other night. Sick! speaking of being burned by your last blogger. Sodom and Gamorah. Get ready.

That was a good read, Im looking forward to the programme exploring the war and the effects it has on America in greater detail. Im not American but I can imagine continuing to question an on-going conflict where Americans are dying RIGHT NOW (3 dying just toaday)will be very controversial.

does that mean will get 25 episode this season
Posted by: brian | January 20, 2007 at 07:19 AM
cris: Your kids will find 2 guys kissing or 2 girls kissing a beautiful thing IN SPITE OF YOU. Remember, they don't share your hang-ups. It's a new generation. Don't weigh them down with all your hateful baggage.
And remember, one of your own children could be gay....& I'm sure you'll love them no matter what.

It sounds like Brothers and Sisters is going to be even more amazing the second half of the season. I can't wait to see what is in store for the Walker family.

The increasingly absurd and hysterical (in both senses of the word) comments from the anti-gay crowd illustrate quite effectively why portrayals of gay people in the media is so NECESSARY. We cannot let this sort of shameful ignorance spread unchecked forever. People who still function under the delusion that being gay is either a choice or immoral will simply have to deal with the reality that God creates gay people exactly the way they are, so endless whining about it, either in their day-to-day lives or in TV message forums like this one, is beyond pointless. It's irrational. The diversity of life will not change just because they demand mindless uniformity in all things. The time to deal with reality is long past due, folks. Get with...the program.

I hate the gay scenes & I am chosing not to watch it and not to buy any of the products that is advertising with this show. I am tired of the networks pushing it down our throats everytime we turn on the TV. I am with the woman who can't watch TV with her children. Sick, Sick, Sick.

What gay agenda? a few gay characters, on a few shows, most of them set dressing. This is the first tv show, to actually show a gay person as a full fledged part of society, with a fleshed out personality and character, so smartly written, and acted. Someone with a job and a famiy that loves him, completely and without judgement. Thank God, has a love life too, and he's not just some punchline. Gay agenda...give me a break. My husband and I think that Kevin, is one the best characters on televison, gay or straight. Maybe, you should be more concerned about having your kids up until 10pm, on Sunday watching "Brothers and Sisters." What happened to the good ol' days, when if you didn't like something on television...you turned the channel?
I say bravo to the creators and writers of the show...bravo. Not all straight people, are so narrow.

I am straight and NOT narrow, but I have to agree w/ Charley and cris.. what was a great show has now turned to junk to please the gay people.. I didn't mind all the talk and inferences, but really!!! we don't need to watch them kissing or who knows what next.. Let's leave some things to the immagination!! Adding that content will lose you more viewers than gain them. Love the show, but please leave out the gay sex scenes or I also will be tuning it out.. What a shame.. finally a great show on Sun. nite and you want to add that.

It's interesting to watch the stern vexation of the anti-gay brigade, all of whom are getting increasingly infuriated that their prejudices are not being acquiesced to. I imagine they are used to cowering others into silence with the "might makes right" philosophy, but what they fail to realize is that...the world has moved on without them. Rational, educated people no longer believe the absurd myths about gay people that contaminated society for so long. Gays are as much a part of God's plan as anyone else, and just as worthy of being portrayed in the entertainment media. That's just the way it is. Deal with it, or finally make good on your promises to change the channel. But in any case, please stop the endless whining and mewling. Nobody cares, you know?
Posted by: Getta Grippe | January 22, 2007 at 06:45 PM
Just where in the Bible does it say that man should sleep with man or woman with woman. Please don't say this is a part of God's plan. Not saying that being gay makes you a horrible person, but it is NOT part of God's Plan.
Posted by: Bonk | January 23, 2007 at 06:43 AM
Bonk, forget the Bible. It was written by men, not God, and has been re-written, interpreted, re-interpreted, translated, and re-translated for centuries by fallible human beings who want to foist their own agendas and lifestyle choices onto the rest of us. These men may choose to believe that homosexuality is not part of the Lord's plan, but they are simply wrong. God Himself created gay people as He did everything else, and has kept them here on His earth for centuries, so He obviously wants them here. Certain people may not like that fact, and may stomp their feet for the rest of their lives in protest, but in the end, what's the point? Why argue with God?
Posted by: Getta Grippe | January 23, 2007 at 06:51 PM
Getta Grippe: Nice (& uncommon for this blog) common sense. In the Bible, "Leviticus" actually does say man-on-man sex is sinful. But then again, Leviticus tells us that if a woman is caught cheating on her husband, the proper way to deal with the situation is: 1. the husband should place her on the steps to the house & 2. STONE her to death. Such "merciful" GOOD NEWS! Apparently Leviticus always suggests killing unruly children. And suggests that you not eat shellfish (lots of dietary laws). It's an evil, horrible little chapter.
