ELMO ALERT! TIME SLOT CHANGE!
We interrupt Anna Fricke's blog to give you this exciting announcement--starting next Friday, November 2, Men In Trees will move to a NEW TIMESLOT--8PM ON FRIDAYS! We are all thrilled, and hope you are, too. Now you don't have to stay up late or miss that party to get your dose of Trees. So, Huggers, start the in case of emergence-tree -- call, visit, e-mail everyone you know and let them know. Remember, it starts with our very next episode, so I don't want anyone to miss it. It is really, really good. And I rely on you guys to get the word out.
Jenny
WARNING!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!
For those of you keeping track of seasons… it is finally spring in Elmo! Very confusing I know, as we creep towards Halloween in the real world, but these episodes were meant to air last year and we wanted to remain true to our Elmo timeline. Of course, that meant that there was a freak snow storm in Vancouver during the filming of this episode. But hey, it's Alaska. That’s what happens. And it’s not so much the weather that we’re interested in. We wanted to write an episode about the emotional thawing that occurs in the Elmoian spring.
As we came off of the turmoil of the first two episodes of season 2, we wanted to give our characters a chance to heal and lick their wounds. Mistakes were made. Words were exchanged. Engagements broken. Rocks were thrown and windows were blown in by arctic cyclones. After Jack and Lynn broke up, we thought Jack needed a moment to react to this. True, people might not have wanted Jack and Lynn together. But it was a blow for Jack nevertheless. He went out on a limb for all the wrong reasons and an entire town saw him fall. What happens when you experience a breakup in a small town like Elmo? Everyone talks about it. For a private man like Jack, this is a nightmare.
We also realized that Marin had survived her first winter in Elmo, literally and figuratively. The worst had happened, pretty much. And she came through the other side okay. It was an appropriate time for spring to come. But most of all, this episode was inspired by people’s reluctance to show their cracks. Jack won’t admit he needs help. Cash doesn’t want to get attached to Marin. Annie doesn’t want to relinquish control of her wedding. As much as she loves Patrick, it’s hard for her to believe that he’ll be able to hold up his end of the bargain on the big day. Celia doesn’t want to be vulnerable to Dick. Terri is afraid to give his heart to George, lest it get broken again. And of course there is the ice itself; Elmoians are at the mercy of the elements. What happens when the ice cracks? You’re forced to deal with being uncomfortable.
And speaking of uncomfortable… how much does this episode make you not want to get a tattoo? I have nine. But none of them are names. Because that was a bad idea, Jack! The Jack and Lynn who got those tattoos must have been a couple of lovelorn fools. Anyway, for those of you who are screaming at the television telling Jack to look into laser removal, for the love of god, we want you to know that “sanding” tattoos off is an option – especially if your tattoo artist lives in Elmo and doesn’t have the latest equipment in stock. This is true. Our tattooed writers’ assistant checked it out. And if Raimy’s word isn’t gospel, I don’t know what is.
We wanted to use this episode to throw our characters into unknown elements and see them come out stronger on the other side. Most of all, we wanted Jack and Marin to realistically come to a true thaw between them. Despite how Marin was hurt by Jack’s engagement, at the end of the day she’s a relationship coach – and a good person to boot. Her instinct is to help someone – everyone. That’s what she brings to this town. And having survived her first winter, she realizes that she’s strong enough to keep going – even stronger than she thought. Thanks for watching. If you love weddings, boy do we have some festivities in store for you… and if you love Sam and Jane (which I personally do) fear not, they have not disappeared – stay tuned for a scene stealing reunion…

Great episode! I absolutely can't wait until next weeks as it looks hillarious!!!!
Am I the only one that noticed that some of the scenes tonight were cut short from what was shown on the sneak peeks on this website? Is ABC trying to get more commercials in and therefor cutting the show short? I find this irritating. I really want a dvd so I can watch the WHOLE show uncut!!
Love this show, loved tonight episode as always!

What a great episode. I love this show more and more every week. I thought I wanted Jack and Marin together forever, but man, is there some serious chemistry between Cash and Marin or what!! He's so yummy. Kudos to the writers yet again. I hope this gem of a show melts its way into the hearts of everyone!

Thanks again for this wonderful show. It's so well written, and each character is unique and funny. I look forward to watching every week. I hope it takes off this season so ABC gets the message and gives it the respect it deserves.

So happy to see MIT moving to 8PM!!!!! Now I can watch with my husband! Keep the superior writing coming.

Has this ever happened in the history of television? Everyone totally wants Jack and Marin together, but poor Lynn, and especially poor Cash. My heart breaks for both of them.
Okay, I'll confess. Mostly for Cash.
Jenny, you promised we'd find out what was written on Cash's rock. Poor, shirtless, sigh-worthy Cash. That means he'll be back, right?
Great episode, filled with many nostaligic endings, and new beginnings. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us.
PS: love the new Jerome love interest!

Dear Anna, dear rest of the team,
You rock !
Another advantage of the new time slot : we will get our MIT fix 2 hours sooner ! This will work just once though...
See you next week, and thanks again for your great show.

~~~Another great episode!
It's amazing how much you guys pack into one hour.
We were cringing while Jack
was having his tat sanded.
{I hope Lynn's "N" doesn't become M___N}
Congrats on the time shift
from this happy *hugger*!
I am falling in love with MIT more and more each week. This is absolutely the best show on tv in many years. I laughed hardest when Celia was trying to tell Dick how old she was going to be when he was 60, 70, 80. I was ROFLMAO!!!! You know that you are a true Elmo fan when you know what they are going to say! OMG! Jenny, I am thrilled that MIT has moved to a time slot that it is worthy of. It will do great at 8:00 I am positive! Thank you again for the beautiful writing and letting me go to bed happy and with a smile on my face. Can't wait til Friday!
Another great show...well worth the wait! I have to say that I am not happy about the time change as I don't get home from work until 9:00 on fridays. Really liked the 10:00 slot....I guess it'll be online episodes for me.
Noooooooooooo! PLEASE BRING CASH BACK!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah-yeah dance for the new time slot !
Oh-yes-! approval for bringing us some warm spring temperatures across this fall/winter depressing thing we have outside !
Well-done-! comments on the last developments ! Love them all. Lynn is at last out of the picture at least until the baby birth, Sara and priest beam, soon-to-be-married are so cute together, bring us plow guy back, Cash is a (sick ? I hope not) piece of cake, Marin starts to feel the sweetness of living in Elmo, great storylines really. The pace is good too, everything changes very quickly and I must say quite always unexpectedly, excellent sense of action.
Encore ! for this unique way of presenting utterly non-politically-correct situations with such a grace. Hilarious.
Next week is never too soon (in your case at least).
Thank you for all this.
Great show this week.
One complaint though...where is Cash going? I need him!
Posted by: | October 27, 2007 at 08:59 AM
Yeah, Sam and Jane are coming back - can't wait. Don't want Cash to leave - how about a new love interest for him or maybe Sara? MIT is the best show on TV.
My Goodness! That was an awesome episode last night! I so needed that. Congratulations on the time slot change. 8:00pm is a great time. Friday night is one of my favourite nights for TV and now it's just perfect.
This was another great episode! The emotions on all sides really rang true to me. I especially loved the Cash scenes too . . . ultimately I want Jack and Marin together (I think) but I love the connection between Cash and Marin too . . . even more so because they've made it pretty much platonic (whatever Cash might actually feel.)
Loved this episode. Am thrilled that Lynn is gone.. along with that tattoo. Can't wait for the next episode although I wish abc would seriously get behind the success of the best show on tv instead of using all their energy on what the next time slot will be!
Why aren't the new episodes in HD? The beautiful scenes are a big part of what I loved about this show.
That's the way it is.
